RDPSD Summer School is back, and registration is now open. Whether you’re hoping to catch up, get ahead, or try something new, our summer programming offers flexible, credit-earning opportunities for high school students. With a mix of online and in-person courses, real-world experiences, and specialized programs, students can build a summer schedule that works for them.

Traditional Summer School Offerings:

We offer a wide selection of high school courses - from core subjects like Math, Science, English, and Social Studies to popular options including CALM, Physical Education, Foods, and Aboriginal Studies. With opportunities to focus on both academic goals and personal interests, there’s something for every learner.

Unique Programming:

This summer, we're excited to offer three unique programs designed to enhance your learning experience and cater to your interests and goals:

  1. ATHLETE: Join our ATHLETE program to take your athletic abilities to the next level. Led by expert coaches with collegiate and community renown, ATHLETE offers intensive training in soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Dive into sport-specific skill development, strength and conditioning sessions, and theory work aligned with Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles. With personalized attention and a focus on holistic athlete development, ATHLETE provides a dynamic and empowering environment for athletes passionate about achieving excellence.   1. 21st Century Learning: Prepare for the digital future with our 21st Century Learning program, offering students the opportunity to explore eLearning, online safety, and Google applications. Aligned with Alberta Education's curriculum, this structured course provides valuable skills and knowledge while earning six high school CTS credits and a free Chromebook upon successful completion. THERE IS NO REGISTRATION FEE OR COST FOR THIS PROGRAM.

  1. Summer Work Experience: Embark on a rewarding journey with our Summer Work Experience Program, aligned with Alberta Education's Work Experience program of studies. Engaging in work or volunteer positions in various industries and sectors, students gain hands-on experience, develop essential employability skills, and explore career pathways while earning high school credits. Don't miss out on this chance to turn your summer into a stepping stone towards future success! THERE IS NO REGISTRATION FEE OR COST FOR THIS PROGRAM.

  1. First Aid Certification: New this year, students can complete a full-day Basic First Aid Certification course and earn two high school credits. It’s a valuable life skill and a great addition to any resume. There are two sessions of First Aid learners can sign up for: July 8 or July 15. Sessions will run based on enrollment numbers. Additional Information:

  • Duration: Summer school runs from July 2-25.
  • Online Format: All courses are 100% online, except for Foods, First Aid and  ATHLETE. Online students should expect to work 4-6 hours daily on their subject. 
  • Teacher Support: Daily check-ins with teachers are expected, and teacher support for online courses is available from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM daily.
  • Exams: In-person final exams for all courses will be held at the Pines Alternative School on July 24-25 (no exceptions and we are unable to accommodate alternative exam dates).

Important Reminders:

  • Students may register in up to two courses.
  • Students are permitted to take only one core subject.
  • The ATHLETE program is considered a core course due to its required in-person attendance.
