Welcome to North Cottage High School

Historical photo of North Cottage School

Built in 1911, North Cottage is a registered historic building, and the oldest school building still operating in Central Alberta. It has been home to Red Deer Public Schools’ Alternative Programs since 1989. Welcome to being a part of history!

We are a program dedicated to helping adults, upgraders, and students in their fourth year of high school complete high school courses. Course material is delivered through an online platform, and teachers are available on-site for in-person assistance. The building is also open and welcomes our students to work in a quiet, homelike environment. Qualifying students may register with North Cottage High School throughout the school year until April. Courses can be completed as quickly as the student is able.

The building is open Monday to Thursday, 9 AM to 3:30 PM, and Friday, 9 AM to 12 PM.

Adults upgrading their education are only permitted one course at a time. Adults above the age of 20 years on September 1st are required to pay adult course fees. A course must be paid for prior to gaining access to the course; $800 for a 5 credit course, $500 for a 3 credit course, and $250 for a 1 credit course, plus a $100 refundable textbook deposit where applicable. Courses are non refundable after 30 days. Adults must also register themselves for their course diploma exams.

Finish Line provides opportunities for students who have not completed their high school graduation requirements. It connects with students, going over missing credentials, and provides the best options for each individual student. Together, a learning plan is created which includes the best path to success to introducing students to online learning, completing requirements, or accessing other beneficial resources. Finish Line provides continuous support, resources, encouragement, and celebrates the achievements of each student working to reach their finish line!

Please contact Cassandra Trenholm at North Cottage for support and qualifications for this program.
